Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence (UI) is the involuntary leakage of urine. It means a person urinates when they do not want to. Control over the urinary sphincter is either lost or weakened. It is a common problem that affects many people. It responds well to physiotherapy.

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is when urine leaks out with sudden pressure on the bladder and urethra, causing the sphincter muscles of the pelvic floor to open. This may happen with activities like exercise, sneezing, laughing or coughing.

Common signs and symptoms of urinary incontinence

  • Leaking urine when coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercising
  • Feeling sudden, uncontrollable urges to urinate
  • Frequent urination
  • Waking up many times at night to urinate
  • Urinating during sleep

These symptoms can be improved with Specialist Physiotherapy Interventions. If you are in any doubt as to whether we can help, please contact us to discuss and we will advise accordingly.

We recommend the Squeezy App for pelvic floor exercises at home.
